Main point, some people will always want Android phones and some will always want iOS phones. I think my Alltel-branded Nokia i is a 1X or 1G phone. I have no doubt they are doing as a loss leader to make a name of themselves.

Is it worthy for replacing your current kit lens upgrade? I decided to try again on-line, but when I entered the iPhone's number I was informed that it was already registered. I checked out the Moto X, nice phone but the screen is not as sharp as most phones in Ahead of the CurveThe Verge, April 18, After the transfer, all the units transferred to my new phone, only now they were labeled voice, text and data.

Smart, useful, and always ready for you

Having said that, 2-months on I love the Z3 Compact. The Galaxy S7 is not affected and we stand by it as our pick. Each of the phones have different features, pro's and con's, that can be hard to evaluate fully. Tried that and got the message "we are unable to program your phone.

24.03.2018 - Is there a period of time that the phone has to be off the Verizon network? Hey Jacob, I just updated my comment to say that the G5 has Quickcharge 3. Is this a royal web page screw up or does this mean that Tracfone has expanded their smart phone network affiliation and not told anyone? WP feels very curated; I had less options but everything worked smoothly. Multiple unbiased reviewers Phandroid have called this a win for the G5 because although the S7 scans faster, it scans to the lock screen which is inefficient. The Nexus 6 is tempting…the nice minimalist design of Motorola, a herculean battery, and balls-to-the-wall specs. I've seen two identical phones on the same network at the same location show as much as two bars different signal strength.

18.03.2018 - This is handily the best Android phone overview I have yet to read. I prefer to use my phone one handed, which means my thumb needs to be able to reach the entire screen. Other reviewers did a better job than you this time, but I know you can do better still. It also has 5 customization home screens, includes a 4 GB Micro SD card, and has been available from Tracfone since Maybe the S8 will be the answer. I have a galaxy s4 straight talk phone and was told I couldn't use as a tracfone, but when I turn on the phone it has the tracfone logo?

It has better overall color accuracy, but inferior saturation levels. Some reviewers say one thing, others say another. Your link has awesome info in that regard—thanks! Several reviewers found it significant to the point of being an annoyance.

Shocking, this is the first review I have disagreed with from this site. Everyone has their own opinion on which Android handset is best. This says it best —.

I agree with Segan and Ion except about the battery life, which was very inconsistent on my T-Mobile review unit. Well… with the official Droid Turbo launch today I will be watching for updated information on that phone.

I think this phone category page has become very difficult to digest and follow. Perhaps it should be broken into further sub categories, or at the very least, an index anchor links at the top.

What do you find difficult? Not being snarky, very serious. However, I think the main point of the current format is for people to read it in its entirety, to get a complete understanding of all the best android handsets out there, and what they offer vs what other similar handsets offer.

This page has grown so gigantic that it is difficult to digest desired information. This is true of many other giant reviews on TheWireCutter. At the very minimum, I would prefer Table of Contents 1 match the text of each sub section, 2 located closer to the top instead of being buried within the article, and 3 expanded so that I can more easily find each phone reviewed.

The regular Z3 and Z3 Compact also feature wireless charging through the magnetic charge port. Plus I believe the Sony magnetic dock is less expensive than a lot of Qi chargers.

The Nexus 6 is tempting…the nice minimalist design of Motorola, a herculean battery, and balls-to-the-wall specs. It should have a great price point on contract as well.

Disregarding size, the phone has no weaknesses in my opinion. It marginally improves on everything I like about the M7. Some new software features, a little bigger screen, a little better battery, the same beautiful software.

So instead of someone seeing two guides and needing to read both, or entirely ignoring the second article, you have one guide that covers everything. Every other device on the wirecutter is reviewed this way.

The rest of the site is very well written and pretty unbiased. I understand there is much fuel to a fire regarding smartphones, but I feel like this particular section is oddly biased.

Another thing that was missed in regards to iPhone to Android comparison is the size of the devices. The iPhone 6 has a 4. In comparison to the iPhone 6 plus with a 5.

In contrast the galaxy note 4 is. In general android devices are smaller even though they have a larger screen. For example, the z3 compact is 5 inches tall but has a 4.

Where the iPhone 5s last years favorite is 4. But the point to my writing was mostly to highlight the folly in paying attention only to screen size and not actual phone dimensions. On a somewhat related note… the tablet guide says wait on best android tablet, but not on best tablet… what if the nexus 9 is preferred over the iPad Air 2?

Main point, some people will always want Android phones and some will always want iOS phones. Secondary point, the iPhone 6 is the best smartphone for most people. There are also people that like Windows Phone devices!!!!

You guys should see that its a really fierce battle between ios and windows phone regarding the smartphone market share! Please start including windows phone devices in forums, blogs, posts.

Especially the lumia is such a great phone. It is in the market for more than 2 years and its specs are still very up-to-date. Microsoft has also been doing an excellent job in providing the developers a better way to create their apps.

And I love the windows phone interface…. WP is gaining market share except in the US. Please do a WP guide and have it done. Especially since windows 10 is coming out in spring. Thanks for the helpful feedback.

The way you spell it, its wrong. Great phone with a major issue: VoLTE is currently not supported. Feels like a giant leap backwards. This should really be flagged in the article. You need to make correction to this comment on the Z3 Compact: Having said that, 2-months on I love the Z3 Compact.

Nice to see Sony back in the game. Dear Wirecutter, please help! I need help escalating a wireless carrier issue. The phone data never works for more than a day or two.

Voice always works, but data never works. After hours of tech support and some major reboots etc, it might work for a day and then boom, back to no internet. Seen the problem recur in 3 different states so its not a location issue.

Antennae bar is usually full, and in fact a Verizon iPhone sitting next to it has full data always. Tech support has even replaced the instrument once and the SIM card twice. Perhaps something is wrong in the way the Verizon network interfaces with the HTC phone.

Can you help me escalate this? Bring it into a brick and mortar Verizon store and demand to speak with the manager. While it lacks the style and charm of the Moto X, the Droid Turbo is a powerhouse that manages to outperform its relative in nearly every way that matters.

Any thoughts on Dual Sim phones? I am in the circumstance of potentially wanting an inexpensive unlocked dual sim Android phone in Canada. Amazon results show a number by companies I have never heard of e.

BLU — a Miami based company targeting Latin America — accounting to wikipedia and expensive ones from names I have heard before. This review helps in parts of what I am looking for. Despite a dual some being the ideal solution I may well end up going with a partial solution — budget android.

You can find a Moto X unlocked for a decent price, but our unlocked pick is the Nexus 5. Just sold my Nexus 5 for a good price and ordered a OnePlus One! The build quality is unbelievable for the price.

It shipped with Kitkat though and the OTA updates came soon after. Now running CM12 lollipop based rom. There were a few unlocked LG G3s but carrier branded.

Moto X 2nd gen was next candidate but it was more expensive, had less storage, small battery and worse camera performance. Android phones indeed rule the market and one of the best are Samsung and Xperia models.

But I would choose Xperia because they are first of its kind features which makes them very unique. Samsung Alpha great phone http: Will we get an update with more on the Droid Turbo and G Flex 2 before the new flagships are announced next week?

Any sense of when Wirecutter take on those new flagships will be up? Just disable the unused whiz bang stuff, and never use the extra apps. But the bloat is still there, taking up space on your phone.

Look at how much free space there is on a fresh phone. Touchwiz on Samsung phones takes up a decent amount of storage space. Exactly how much space is being used by useless apps installed by Samsung?

I prefer many of the added features over standard Android, and the rest are easily ignored. Once set up I spend little if any time in the System Settings. You can select the specific toggles you want to show up in the notification window.

Last I looked, it was at least a couple gigs larger than the stock ROM. Yeah, for settings, toggles, notification, etc. Extra stuff on the Settings menu or in the app drawer becomes really irrelevant to daily use.

Android is so customizable that dismissing a phone on that basis just seems silly to me. To each his own. For now, the only tech thing on my mind I care about, for now only, is good quality cases for the OnePlus One.

Too may case manufactures are not realizing they are dropping the ball. I can say this after months of research of phone cases. Also, let me add that the OnePlus One is now available every Tuesday for the entire day each week to the general public!

I sure hope the case manufacturers are reading this since they really are missing out. Tired of trying to decide on all the multiple assortment available, with something always making it appear to stay away.

I loved the case because it was a perfect fit and so very slim that the phone remained feeling as svelte as ever. Just a note that the One Plus One is no longer invite only.

Not sure if that changes your rating but it was the only criticism besides size that you levelled at it. I like Camera HS.. What about the LG G2 for good cheap phone.

It may be older but it still had good specs and camera. I think it got lollipop update before the LG G3. I would not expect it to get much after that but if being on the latest software was important I would go S6 or Iphone 6.

Just posted so people know that it is is still one to look at as it has held up well. This article and the article at the link below really helped me pick my phone! They even say it in the review and then try to justify not having these options however if you do not want them you would have bought an IPhone.

This should be my third Galaxy however I am thinking about keeping my S4 or going to the S5 as the deals are so good thanks to the release of the S6. In a really strange world, I might wait for the Windows 10 phones to come out and go there.

I just retired my S3 for an S6, and the battery and SD card slot were not significant concerns for me. Those are the next ones for me. Qi charging is not on the list however it is becoming of interest.

Camera is why i think the S5 or Note 4 might win the upgrade battle. The damn color of the phone is orders of magnitude more important than a removable battery for the VAST majority of people.

No I was making mine, if you go down the list of features, best phone on the market is the IPhone unless you want a removeable battery and a SD Card slot. You can get the S2 and S4 in a vast choice of colours because they sold a lot which the S6 is not doing because it falls down on these 2 tick boxes.

It is a massive mistake by Samsung and I think Sony are going to get my money this time. Because the best selling phone as you said is an iPhone. No, my point that the second best selling phones to the revelant IPhone have had my tick boxes because why else where people buying them?

The best alternative to an IPhone needs to be as good and have features that the IPhone does not have ie an SD card slot and a removable battery. If you want an S6 wait a couple of months they already have warehouses full of them because it is not selling so the offers should be brillant just do not expect to be able to buy things to fit it.

Enjoy your phone choice. Those are exactly the first two tick boxes for owning an android for me. Which is not the IPhone, the best selling phone in the history would be the Nokia candy bar.

First rule of business, what can I do different to my competition? Samsung offered SD slot and removable battery and sold more Android phones than anyone else. I bet you have lots of friends. And that you never wear any black.

Also, definitely no neckbeard on you. I guess very few of the flagship Android phones are actually Android phones, then. At least in your twisted mind. Enjoy Windows phone, I guess. All of the flagship Android phones tick my first 2 boxes before this.

If my needs matched the needs of the most consumers I would own an IPhone! Basically, you can use them for storing media. I can understand that might be important to some, but that number is dwindling.

What I wish the phone manufacturers would focus on is battery life. Motorola kind of got it right with the Droid Turbo unfortunately, Verizon only. That one of the big reasons why I want the card, had to do a major cull recently to upgrade and that is with all of my media on the card.

I picked up a cheap phone with a broken screen on eBay which had a battery, and use it to charge one battery while I use my phone, then swap them out when the one in my phone is low.

Most unlocked phones around that price are definitely not going to be flagships, and generally will be lower quality, and often smaller. That being said, one of the best options in that price range is probably the OnePlus One.

It has surprisingly good components for the cost, a 5. Alternatively, if you can wait a month or two. The same company is supposedly releasing the OnePlus Two pretty soon, with updated specs although little is known about it right now.

So far I love this phone. Very snappy and responsive. Immediately I noticed viewing web pages on my lower end Lumia versus my new Zenfone is strikingly different. This looks much more like a laptop or desktop experience Gifs actually playback!

Otherwise this feels like my Android tablet: On windows phone it can detect group text automatically. With Android I had to switch over to Hangouts for my messaging app.

This is a small example of the difference coming from Windows Phone. WP feels very curated; I had less options but everything worked smoothly. Android and this phone feel like a muscle car.

Add whatever you want, how ever you want. I have the Asus Zenfone 2 as well. This was a big step up from my previous Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 is well loved at the price range, though the phone bands are not really international.

I know the article is a complete waste of time and considering they claim to be long term Android users it is bizarre. I have been an Android user for the last four years and the S6 is a complete lemon.

Be interesting to see if it out sells the S5? The strange thing is you can get an Otterbox case for the S6, the only reason I did not get one for my S4 was they took so long to bring it out.

I would sit on your hands over Windows, the XL is a massive disappointment it has almost no memory however they must have Windows 10 phones coming so maybe they will offer something worth buying.

I would look long and hard at the Sony Z3 Compact if you really need to change urgently. What phone do you recommend buying next to it? I could use some help. What a great review! If anyone else would like some additional reading on the Charge HR or would like some information on fitness tracking in general, have a look at http: Ugh for Samsung GS 6.

Go to Google store and click on My Apps to see. Will be looking for another phone and even considering iPhone. Are there any phones that meet this criteria? Our expert said the Moto X would suit you better!

The new ones should be out in a couple of months. The OnePlus 2 is also interesting to me. Thanks for the response! Have a look at the Sony Z3 Compact, I am edging towards that. It seems to be the best Android phone at the moment.

It has a 4. Do those ship with stock Android ROMs? As in can I update the phone whenever Google rolls out an update? The 6 is too damn big for my uses. I just got the Z3, after the battery of my Moto X barely lasted 5 hours of standby.

The size is right and I prefer some Android vs. In addition, Sony put in some features from their point-and-shoot cameras. Increasing storage with a microSD card is cheaper vs.

LG G4 also v. This article was updated in June — the author should change this sentence. The LG G4 has been out for a while now. I want a flagship smartphone with removable battery and also get new android update..

Which according to the article you linked, is the highest grade. In fact, AnandTech actually recommends the M8 over the M9. Probably also it helps them make phones thinner, which remains a really competitive selling point.

Who decided that the all high-end phones have to be comically oversized? Too bad it is hard for the typical consumer to buy. Might even consider switching to the iphone to replace my Moto X.

Is that any more competitive with the S9 than the regular M9? Does anyone know what are the best big phones min screen size of 5. I can only think of the Note 4. Handset makers have started to move away from both, unfortunately.

Soon there might be none. For more or less the same price in my country I can get: Which of those would you recommend to a mid-geek guy looking for no lags, a nice screen, good camera and battery life what about battery issues after Lollipop update in these devices?

Coming from Lumia with only a year old but wanting to go back to Android. Any recommendations for people with small hands? I prefer to use my phone one handed, which means my thumb needs to be able to reach the entire screen.

Everyone acknowledges Steve Jobs was a visionary genius, and he strongly believed the 4 inch screen was the sweet spot for mobile phones. But it seems none exist today! Of the small phones you tested, which were your favorite?

After that you get up to the Moto X and from there pretty much everything is 5 inches or more. I wish reviewers would spend more time on battery life. These are supposed to be mobile phones.

I think many reviewers, and then the product managers, at the companies begin caring more about aesthetics and shaving a mm off the depth of a device rather than the actual function of being a mobile device.

The basics seem to trail form way too often in this marketplace. I first read a review about it on http: Even though there are many new smartphones I still like the Samsung Galaxy s5 more!!! How does z5 compact compare to lg g4?

Its kinda funny that Google gives more storage on the base model and Apple argues that cloud services can take over from on board storage so only gives 16gb.

I had a Moto G and liked it other than only having 1 gb of ram seemed to slow it down a bit so I wanted to upgrade. I have had the phone for three months and love it more every day! I tend to use an Otterbox Defender for worry-free usage and would love to get a waterproof for added peace of mind.

I like rugged and backup plans even if I never use them arguably bad habit. I already splurged on a HRM watch to pair with it arguably healthy. Timers, calendars, notes, quick internet lookup, eBook and articles, maybe some practical Tasker action to improve my daily functions.

Come on, what happened to when we just used touchscreen pocket pads for that? Rugged, one-handed T9 without looking, simple. Speed on computers is pretty good nowadays for such usage.

Battery is what gets me, so I also wanna root this thing. Expandable memory and removable battery are reasonable requests. Rooting, waterproof, and some nice speakers and screen especially in lowlight are what descends after the elusive keyboard.

Hope this somewhat helps! Sorry if I missed this but have you done a side-by-side comparison with the Samsung s6 and the Iphone 6s Plus? We compare Android phones to Android phones.

Our iPhone guide is here https: Yes, I saw that. Many of us do make that kind of comparison and I thought you would too. Thank you all the same. Maybe I missed it, but do you have any comparisons of the voice call quality between the phones?

Hmm that sounds rough. Have you read anything online where other users experience the same thing? One of those was with my alarm company asking for the safe word because the cat set off a motion detector, so that was frustrating.

I found some people complain about call quality on the OPO, with solutions like rooting the phone, going into the settings, and disabling the secondary noise cancelling microphone, but that just seems like a cruddy work around.

So it sounds like the secondary noise cancelling mic is to blame. You need root access in order to disable it? Seems like something that should be in the basic settings. I found this thread on the OP forum that seems to be talking about the same issue, but not all of them agree on the cause.

I have a oneplus one and had the same issue. I loved my Moto X in every way, except for one thing: It keeps cracking, sometimes even when the phone is in a case. The last time it happened, I dropped it only six inches onto the face, but still.

How can I know if a non-removable battery and microSD are important to me? Would the Galaxy S5 be a better alternative for these or any other reasons e. I easily could have, but it can still more or less get me though a day with a very dark screen.

I have also never replaced the 8GB microSD. My main phone uses: I have very few apps, though there are probably some I would download if I had the internal space. I have no desire to play games.

Is this a valid concern? Do you go through power really fast? Would you prefer to swap out batteries vs plugging into something like a USB battery pack?

And have lots of music? They want you to use Google Drive cloud storage, geddit? Many batteries fail outright after the warranty period. I used my S2 last good Samshit phone for nearly 4 years with custom ROM upgrades and went through 2 battery replacements.

Not having to run to a service centre when your daily driver phone dies. Being able to plug all your favourite music, video and media or document files straight into your new phone when you buy it.

Being able to backup all your files onto micro-sd card. My late grandma used a phone with a cord. I just bought it last month. Here is a quick review from Android Police: Also, it would be great to see off-contract prices listed as standard since most carriers are moving away from contracts now.

Front flash helps take splendid selfies even in the pitch dark. It has no removeable battery. You think just because it boasts higher specs that perform it becomes the better phone but it does not even rate with so many other options out there with alot more versatility.

I could care less if a phone has wireless charging or NFC so when a phone review slanders a phone without those features you are definitely reading a review posted by a geek or guru who prefers those features.

But just because the author of this article says those features being absent make the phone less of a contender does not mean those features are required or even requested by the majority.

This entire market is becoming a big bottle of snake oil and these Samsung S6 specs, although premium and powerful, are just not necessary and a big waste to the majority of users.

Enthusiasts are not the majority so when someone, an average user, is looking for a good phone and reviews like this are out there to help make the choice, we end up with alot of people that buy high spec phones and THINK they are carrying the best option for their needs.

The majority of users only need good coverage area from the provider to keep phone service reasonable and a medium grade spec is more than enough to impress the majority for their light internet and app needs.

Enthusiasts that require the latest and the best will find these Samsung S6 phones and others in the same high end category very suitable but even then those high end specs just do nothing for alot of those people either except give them bragging rights.

I guarantee the majority of people will never even see performance differences that are deal breakers on mid grade phones that have an SD card slot as well as a removeable battery with extended battery options that carry a phone for days with casual useage.

You gotta be kidding me. Everyone falling right into this big marketing gimmick that the mobile phone inductry is now trying to capitalize on because they know they got you all fololed. You mean they just too the cost of the phone and subtracted it from your bill over 2 years and instead add it back as an itemized charge and you people believe it?

How many scams and gimmicks will it take before everyone finally decides to make a reasonable decision based on intelligence and not what the world has convinced you to think is intelligent?

Because everything I say is all based on fact. We are nothing but marks that benefit their bottom line. Certainly some very attractive models displayed in the above article.

You guys should definitely check out their official website. Any idea when the review for the Nexus 6P will post? It has been a month since the update to get that, but few details about that handset.

I figured there would be a full write up to replace the Note 5 detailed piece. Is it just going to be the quick notes at the top and not the more detailed portion for the 6P?

The 6P runs pure Android 6. It should be your first choice for a phablet unless you really need a financing plan or a phablet with a stylus. Is faster or better performer than all 2 million different types of phones ever made.

Not same experience for everyone, some obviously have bugs. That being said, I can certainly do research on my own, and am familiar with the market. But your testing is always great, and a guide like that would likely be useful to many people, I imagine.

Choosing a phone plan! I'm sitting at minutes and two years of continuous service. BYOP members get triple the points though, correct? So I was actually credited minutes and even more text messages somewhere in the millions lol.

To put this in perspective I used the data from my old Verizon account: On average I use minutes a month talking on the phone. Over 1yr that is and over a 2yr period. The tracfone staff my not be the easiest crew to work with Thank you for reading They changed the "Bring your own phone" sign up page.

Has anyone found a way to check if they phone's serial number that they want to use is accepted or rejected by tracfone? They also lowered the price to get activation code.

But until they fix the site, you can use http: Successfully registered a pre-owned Verizon iPhone 4s online last night. Note that the MEID number should be entered as the serial number for Tracfone, not the serial in the phone, otherwise you will get an error.

I had to enter the MEID more than once during registration and activation. It gave me the option to get a new phone number for my area, transfer an existing number from another Tracfone, or transfer a number from another carrier.

You'll need to enter an airtime card to complete the activation. That's still an unannounced deal that works with Android smartphones and apparently iPhones too. Great deal, everything done online, very happy.

Any one being told can not get on? I'm planning on getting used htc droid incredible from verizon but i'm not sure how the byop works. Is it true you can get a Galaxy s3-s5 through tracfone byop?

I saw it on a website. I have gotten a Galaxy S on the Tracfone network. I bought it on eBay. It was previously a Verizon phone. The Tracfone folks told me I needed to go to a store and buy one.

They were oblivious to the fact that it could be done online. After that, I put the Galaxy S on Tracfone. Verizon hobbles this phone with their firmware. I couldn't install any sort of streaming audio like TuneInRadio.

I couldn't go to a website and stream any audio. Ironically, I could run Netflix which is many times the bandwidth. Verizon had a policy a while ago where they would have phone manufacturers install "special" firmware that disabled features that were standard in phones.

The standard Motorola phone had the function but again, VZW disabled it for profit. The Galaxy S has similar firmware in that you can't even go to a website and stream their audio.

I tried re-flashing the Operating System to Cyanogen Mod 7, 9 and I could install it successfully but it wouldn't show up in Apps. So here I am again. Only crappy choices of "smart phones" with Tracfone.

I don't understand why Tracfone won't allow premium phones to be bought for a price, only bottom of the line phones. Perhaps that's their business model. If they had good phones, more people would use them.

Activated two refurbished Moto G phones from: If both are good it will tell you and ask if it is active. I went perusing through PhoneArena's list of Verizon phones and filtered it to "budget" android phones.

Almost all of the phones are 4G but there was one I found that may not be. It's the LG G Vista. According to one comment on Verizon's website it is a 3G phone. It has a 5. I'm trying really hard to find a way to get a better phone than Tracfone's current offering.

Has anyone tried using a 4G phone but turning 4G off? Sadly no, because Net10 uses the GSM network, while tracfone uses cdma technology which is imbedded on the phone itself.

Largely depends on the phone and what you are trying to activate. Is this link true? Do you guys think that Project Ara Google's modular phones will work with tracfone? I read somewhere that you would be able to choose between 3G and 4G chips, so to me it looks like it is possible.

I started with TracFone's web site. Upon entering the phone's serial number, I received the go-ahead and entered the number of my current TracFone LG Android. The next step would have been to port the number, but I received a warning that there was no "data service" in my area.

I found that odd; the LG Android phone transfers data via Verizon. So, I stopped and sought tech advice from TracFone. The tech advisor was helpful, but the process was almost endless because of time needed for him to download some info.

In the end, he told me to ignore the on-line info because it pertained non-smart phones not sure about that. He then offered to complete the process on the phone.

However, when he did it, he said that TracFone would not accept the iPhone's serial number. So the process stopped. I decided to try again on-line, but when I entered the iPhone's number I was informed that it was already registered.

Yes, I'd registered it, but apparently it was not possible to go back and start anew with that number. I'm sending the phone back to Amazon, but might try again.

The phone was too nice not have it. Thank you for visiting TracFone Wireless. Every time that you add an airtime card to your phone you receive Triple Minutes, Text Messages and Data.

That is a definate Guaratee Mariam: Kool, thanks so much for your help Mariam: Thank you for chatting with TracFone Wireless. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact one of our customer care representatives at For your convenience, our representatives are available Monday-Sunday from 8: Yes, I will send you the transcript to your e-mail.

Second time was the charm. The process was quick and seamless. My TracFone number ported to the iPhone 4S in less than an hour. Process of syncing email accounts, calendars, contacts, etc.

I recently activated an iphone 4 through the bring your own phone program and transferred my number and units from an older double minute tracfone. No additional airtime was purchased.

After the transfer, all the units transferred to my new phone, only now they were labeled voice, text and data. Will the direct transfer of my number cause the byop iphone 4 to use double minutes instead of triple minutes?

Just added my year-old mom's Jitterbug MEID phone from her previous Tracfone Big Easy Alcatel phone and it transferred easily all done online in 30 minutes or less! Since Jitterbug is simple it doesn't have a text or email feature but I set her up a Tracfone account prior to the transfer and verified the minutes balance and they carried over accurately plus it gave the account an additional 30 days!

New Tracfone cell phones. The cellphone store opens on January 28, Question, how soon does Tracfone offer 4g service? Then we should be able to bring other 4 g cell phones. Looks like there will be a new phone for tracfone by LG.

It's call LG Access. This phone will have a 4. The link you can view is: I have an Alcatel one touch, it works great but it is the 3g tracfone version. They, Alcatel might make a 4g version, but it's not the tracfone Verizon version.

Tracfone might be up to something new. This service should be called Ruin Your Own Phone. Have been a long time and loyal Tracfone customer. Called to activate the iPhone and transfer my existing pre-paid TracFone plan with over a year of service left on it and the end result was that TracFone registered the ESN with Net10 one of their sister companies and tell me that it can not be undone.

So my previously perfectly good and sellable iPhone 4S is now a worthless piece of shit. I just switched over from an LG flip to a 64gb iphone 4s. This phone was a used Verizon that had no service when I received it.

The hardest part was locating the 'code' on my old phone to plug into the website. I did everything online and it took about an hour after I got offline for the service to drop on my old phone and be picked up on my new phone.

I got the phone off ebay and though a lot of people absolutely refuse to send the IMEI or MEID number to the phone that they are selling, there are more than plenty who will, so don't get upset, just move on to the next one.

Just verify the number before you buy, and you're good. Most people would think that a 3. Has anyone tested to see if it can be activated on Tracfone? I was able to keep my same phone number by just transferring my existing account to the new phone upgrade.

The only problem with the transfer was that I lost a ton of minutes over min down to min. I am currently trying to contact Tracfone Customer support on this matter.

They are always ahead of native Tracfone on changes and new models. It'd be great if Tracfone would get them soon though! I just purchased a Moto G which was used barely over 6 months. I had no problem activating it transfering my Tracfone number to it.

It works great with tracfone now. Bought a new iPhone 4s from BestBuy. Called Tracfone to set it up, Tracfone customer service, sorry, but useless and told me to call Verizon because they couldn't "find" my phone.

Called Verizon, and they actually ended up going on the Tracfone website and walked me through. If it was worth it for me switch I would've. Try to go through the website, and not call customer service, and you can set it up fine, as long as it's a Verizon or unlocked phone.

I received this email from Tracfone today: Thank you for your interest in TracFone Wireless. We are responding to your recent inquiry. For further information please go to www. If you have any further questions or concerns, you may contact us via Chat or contact one of our customer care representatives at Thank you for being a TracFone Wireless customer.

We appreciate your business. Sincerely, TracFone Wireless I also had it confirmed in a chat, after they first told me no, but then checked for updates. Can anyone actually confirm it with a 4G LTE phone?

I was just on the TF site. They changed the BYOP page. It now shows 4 colored boxes. No mention of Verizon. My account and phone number transferred over with the use of customer service 15 minutes and TracFone added 2 months of service time no additional time though.

Tracfone now has 4G LTE available, has anybody tried it? Which phone did you use? I just purchased an iPhone 6 unlocked. Should arrive a couple of days I will up date this site after I get it installed.

Can an unlocked, former Verizon phone be activated without getting locked back?? I have a Droid3 3G phone which works fine except I would like to still be on tracfone but have it unlocked to use when I travel outside the US.

I found out last year in England that it is still locked so was of no use except on wi-fi. Filing got my iPhone6 up and running on TracFone. One problem is there is no app for iPhone to check your time and data usage.

So I downloaded a android tablet on my PC: Unknowingly I purchased a Sim card from TracFone with a new number to make sure the phone was going work before transferred my existing TracFone number to the iPhone6.

During the whole process with TracFone Tech support did not mention that the transfer my existing phone number that they had to send me another Sim card!! TracFone Teck support is pretty bad!!!

One other problem I ran into was they suggested that I using WY-Fi for data to turn off the cellular connection. I was trying my voice mail and wasn't getting a response on the iphone for messages.

Come to find out that cell phone data has to be on to receive Voice mail messages. I hope this information helps. My gsmv is great but tracfone apparently doesn't know how to activate it on the Verizon network where I live.

I got a sim from them but they tell me there is an error transferring my service from my old Huawei glory to the new s5. First they thought there was no coverage but found out verizon had the best coverage and there were towers in my area.

Now the fourth 24 to 48 hours later phone call I didn't even get a ticket number for my problem. Something needs to give here. Is there a better CS number to call for the higher departments as tracfone says they are referring my issue to?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Where did you purchase it from? Do any of these phones run off of these towers? Moto E is available for sale! Could someone tell me what phones you can activate with tracfone network access code?

Like for example, would a Samsung Galaxy S3 work with this? This would be my first Smartphone, and I'm not sure how to choose. I have a one-year card for my current Tracfone. Can I switch that to a Smartphone, or am I starting all over?

We also live in a mostly rural area. I couldn't use the browser on my current phone. What's a good beginner phone for talk, text and minor web use. I want to take and send photos, too. I can't get My lgl39c to scan bar codes.

Is an autofocus camera the key to scanning bar codes? How can that be if it's a Tracfone? Prefer it to the LG Ultimate 2. Almost any app on Google play works with the 4.

As a photographer I would appreciate if the camera was better. Battery life is good for the optimus fuel. I can use the internet on WiFi all day before the battery dies. Good work Tracfone reviewer, and thanks a million.

My zip code is Does that matter for availability? A couple phones on the TracFone website are advertised as having "Mobile Web" as one of the features. What is "Mobile Web" and which of the phones you evaluated has that feature?

Same question concerning "Voice Activation". Finally, for the ones having GPS capabilities, is there any application for turn-by-turn navigation? I looked at the Ultimate 2 on the Wal-Mart site where they have a little applet to let you know if a phone will work in your zip code.

Give it a shot. I'm probably just as frustrated as you are. The U2 was available at TracFone right after Christmas, but now it's not. It's getting to the point where I'll have to check the TF site every day, and as soon as the U2 shows up, it's mine!

The reveiw said "With such a large screen, video on the phone has been reported as slightly choppy at times. I've had a ZTE valet since April, use wifi whenever it is available which is most of my usual locations and have had no problems at all.

I only use data when 'on the road. Will be glad when tracfone figures out how to hangle their call - text - data buckets differently so I can just buy text units if that's what I need.

The zip code thing is not always right. Order from Ebay, after finding out what tower the phone uses. Hello Peter, thanks for all your due diligence. No Verizon service in my area.

Nothing in the near future as far as I can tell. Would be nice, and they might do something eventually, but I think it is just easier for them to stick with using Verizon. I thought I read somewhere that the newer android Tracfones work in any location where Verizon phones work?

I called Tracfone and asked for our southwest Iowa location if the LG Ultimate 2 would work in our area and they claimed it would not. Bummer it is well reviewed here. Good camera and plenty of space for aps.

My current LG L34C will often not attach a picture to a text message, failing at the "convert to mmc" stage What do you think? LG Ultimate vs Moto E vs other choices?

After figuring out how to turn the default "talkback" off I can see just fine, so don't need the phone telling me every key I press, and requiring a "double tap" to actually activate a key all is well with my new LG41 - and the process to activate and switch from my old LG34 only took a few minutes on the Tracfone site You may already know this by now but yes you can buy just texts on the tracfone website.

I just ordered a Android 4. I have had a little flip phone for years, it has always been a good reliable phone. Never used a smart phone before. So have a few questions. Is antivirus software included, for internet, or do I have to buy it?

And about how long will a battery charge last? When it refers to Verison account TracFone does not, can not, charge you for wifi use.

Android has a setting to allow you to not use any data through the cell phone network. That is, if you have wifi available, you need not use any of your data allotment. I love my Motorola Moto E except for one thing, and unfortunately it's a big one: As a result of all the Google bloatware, plus all the Motorola bloatware, there is scarcely any room for even a modest number of apps.

Many, especially if you don't use them, are superfluous. I keep PlayStore and GMail. I usually install FireFox and remove the stock browser. Google Play, Books, etc, can all go if you don't use them.

I had, I think, the first TracFone Android. It was slow and had little extra memory. It would stall and needed to be rebooted frequently. It has given me little to no trouble. And, I have internet access almost everywhere if needed though I maximize my use of wifi.

Android is pretty good about keeping viruses out. WiFi is not metered on any Android phone, you are probably referring to mobile data which is usually 3G.

A minute card will give you Mb of mobile data. Been using Tracfone for long time and love it. Will I have to switch to Verizon if I get one of the new phones above? When is Tracfone going to have iPhones?

I would really like to be able to use an iPhone with the savings of having Tracfone! Do you have any info on the LG Sunset? I have had a tracfone for years for emergency purposes.

It works in my car and most places, but not in my house. No service there and I live in the suburbs. Question, if I upgrade to a cool new phone, will I get better service? I hope no one has to call tracfone for any help I tried online to transfer old tracphone flipphone to tracfone smartphone I had activated with no sucess called and got someone who barely spoke english and i had to keep repeating the information.

It took about ten minutes and he said the transfer could take up to an hour. Finally she said she had to send me a new sim card in the mail and when I got it to call back. Yep, I had a similar experience getting a land line number transferred to my tracfone Android.

Online did not work. MANY calls to their voice mail hell. Finally got it done. Then, found that I had lost a bunch of data units in the transfer. More voice mail hell. Not worth the cost.

I am happy with the Android and it's functioning on the cell network. You just can't expect any meaningful help from tracphone for any slightly odd problem. No one from tracphone that talks to you on the phone is likely to really know how their system works.

Does the lg sunset have talkback in it so visually impaired people can use it? Are any of the newer tracfones unlocked? Nope, Tracfone has a very difficult unlocking policy. You could then also use the phone in Europe.

Visit the BYOP page link in bar at the top of the page to learn more. I would like a 4G phone on the Verizon Network with Android 5. HSN also has the Ultimate 2 Tracfone and it comes with a card triple minutes, case and car charger.

Do any of these phones are capable of Wi-Fi Calling? Are there any new reviews on this phone? Why are just texting minute card available for smartphones and not regular tracfones?

I cant afford to by another phone. Because for regular phones, all the airtime is in one pool, thus if you want more texts, just buy another airtime card and all the airtime can be used as texts.

So if you're running low on just texts, you need a text only card to refill it. I currently have the LG Ultimate 2. It's an ok phone, but I would like to upgrade from this one. Where can one find a current, up to date comparison website for all of Android smartphones that will work on Tracfone's CDMA network????

It's ok, certainly not great - but I rec'd it as a gift. Having a bit of trouble setting up VM it uses a different phone number than the phones own number and using some of the functions - but mostly it works.

It's not on this list at all - but it's definitely an Android Marshmallow device. Battery life is horrible - lucky if I get a full eight hours out of a full charge.

Still very new so I'm sure more things will become apparent as a bit of time goes on. Complete List of Android Tracfone Devices with Reviews and Comparison We continue to update this list with all of Tracfone's Android devices so you can easily see them in one place and compare the options.

Compare Android Tracfone Devices! Tracfone is now fully embracing Android smartphone devices and sells a variety of different phones. Each of the phones have different features, pro's and con's, that can be hard to evaluate fully.

TracfoneReviewer is here to help with this list of Android devices that includes a quick comparison of each phone, and links to our full reviews. We wanted to create a resource for consumers who were looking at buying an Android phone from Tracfone and provide a clear list of the phones, with comparison details.

This list is for your convenience, and we hope that it will make for an easier decision. Let's start with a basic but important question: What are Android phones and how are they different from other Tracfone devices?

This is an important question to understand, and you should decide before proceeding further, if an Android phone is what you need. The basic answer to the question is that an Android device is a phone that uses a common operating system, called Android, which allows users to have access to thousands of applications on Google Play.

Android phones are usually refereed to as smartphones, or Android smartphones, because of their increased functionality. They almost all have large touchscreens, and can do many things you would normally only be able to do on a computer such as browsing the web, checking email, surfing social media, and getting GPS directions.

Tracfone has recently begun allowing many different phones to be added to their prepaid service through a program called Tracfone BYOP. Well, let's get to the list of Android devices offered by Tracfone.

List of Tracfone Android Smartphones with Specs and Comparison We will include every Android device from Tracfone in this list, with information about each phone that you can compare to the others to choose the best one to fit your needs.

This list is in no particular order, but generally has the newer phones at the bottom, and we will continue to update it as Tracfone releases new phones. Leave a comment if we miss anything, or if you see a phone that is not included here.

The Samsung Galaxy Centura retails on Tracfone. It also has 5 customization home screens, includes a 4 GB Micro SD card, and has been available from Tracfone since In stores and online.

It has a 3. The Glory has been available from the Tracfone website, but not as easily found at other stores. The Huawei Glory retails at Tracfone. It can sometimes be found online or in stores for much less.

Limited availability, sometimes found online and in stores. It is the smallest smartphone from Tracfone at this time, but has a 3. He plays Clash of Clans between appointments and emails, texts and even talks on it.

I am hoping to pull the trigger on buying the Z3 compact as soon as your review comes in for it. So I wait eagerly! It has so much battery life that I actually removed the battery icon from the menu bar.

My only niggle, and I suppose this is inevitable with trying to pack so much into a relatively small package, is the phone gets hot when the screen is on for an extended period of time. However, the same thing would happen with the Nexus 5 and 4.

So perhaps the HTC One keeps cool as well? Nice to see Sony competing in this space. Actually, I had a follow up question. Could you please tell me what case you have for the Z3c?

A few that intrigued me below:. However, the Bugdroid blocks the mag charging port. It also sounds like it provides less protection than something like the Bugdroid or Nillkin.

Normally, I consider The Wirecutter to be about the only consumer review site that does a decent job of identifying and prioritizing the salient characteristics that really matter in a product and giving excellent, nuanced reviews.

But I think you phoned it in this time pun intended. When they used the S5, they found it laggy. Normally, I expect The Wirecutter to always be on top when it comes to discerning reviews.

Please take a look at where you differed from other phone reviewers and consider that your standards may have fallen a bit short. Other reviewers did a better job than you this time, but I know you can do better still.

Thank you for your kind words, but I would like to correct some of your statements regarding what we did and did not consider in this review. Also, plastic is RF transparent whereas metal is not.

Call quality is important to many people, but is also outweighed by overall usability for most. If you make a lot of calls, you will be better served by a headset.

The M8 and S5 both have good displays. The S5 has more accurate whites, but inferior brightness, which in turn is somewhat mitigated by vastly superior contrast thanks to its AMOLED based display.

Well, you can technically get pretty much any phone out there these days unlocked.

Your account just needs to be in good standing and established for 3 months or longer. As a tech and net researcher myself like you I would think to go with one of those.

So much so that they will light up a dark room. If you sleep in the room where your modem lives you might want to consider another modem. Are there any fitness trackers that are chest strap compatible, like the old Vivosmart was?

If not, do you guys have any recommendations for chest strap based monitors? I got my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 at http: How does the Apple Watch compare to these trackers? Would love to see it included in later assessments.

Valentines sale for Google. What about the Moto X? And thanks for the price tip. But i hate the time load I put into researching stuff cuz i gotta find a bit here and there on the NET!

But what do u say about Nexus 5x speaker and call quality? Too fixated on hardware specs. Getting software updates in particular security updates in timely fashion is also a huge part of the whole user experience.

Many OEMs are bad bad bad at this. They sell you a flashy phone, then they abandon you. The lack of ongoing support cannot make up the minor advantage in hardware specs. I found that with the Moto G, the t-mobile reception was so bad as to make the phone nearly worthless as an actual phone.

Any suggestions on smaller phones? I want something with decent specs 4. The 6P does not have an equally good screen as the Note 5. The Note 5 gets much brighter, reaching over nits in brightness while the 6P only breaks nits.

Could you please list off-contract prices? Much better, thank you! Your other link seems to cover Verizon, but…. The buy from Samsung link links to the S6 Edge rather than the vanilla S6.

And then their link to Verizon says on-contract but the Verizon page gives you the options of full-price or monthly payments. This is why I like Nexus phones and the Moto X. One phone that works on all carriers.

Are you planning to do any update to this guide? And are you considering doing a guide for windows 10 mobile in the future? Thanks for the note though! Google Fi just made an interesting announcement about their international support: That should be mentioned first on the Droid Turbo 2 review but semantics shmantics lol.

They should buy a phone that they can afford NOW. The tech world often feeds on this weird American consumerism that judges peoples worth based on their material possessions. Buy last years model, pay up front, and life within your income.

Your personal opinion, however strong and altruistic, is not a substitute for giving payment information in a commonly accepted format. Yeah, fuck you guys I believed in you. Did you really give the G5 a full comprehensive review?

I am bothered by the dismissal of the LG G5 because you called out many of the S7 benefits some of which are trivial eg. I agree that the S7 is constructed with more finesse, but you forgot the following:.

Especially because of the larger field of view and similar or even better low-light shots. Selfies are not even close in favor of the G5. This is a major factor that you gloss over. Multiple unbiased reviewers Phandroid have called this a win for the G5 because although the S7 scans faster, it scans to the lock screen which is inefficient.

In practice, G5 wins. In practice, the display on the G5 is superior to the S7 in that it actually shows the notifications themselves. I know these are big deals, but they should be at least mentioned.

The Wirecutter has an Apple bias, likely due to only using Apple products, and not out of malicious intent. They have a guide for the latest iPhone generation, but more recently updated their Android review.

Also your number 2 point is incorrect the Samsung Galaxy S7 has Quickcharge. They also missed that the Galaxy S7 Edge has a bigger battery. This write up seemed to have been done very quickly.

They avoid mentioning that the Galaxy S7 camera is better than the iPhone. Ryan Whitwam, the writer, has spent the past five years writing about Android phones. Hey Jacob, I just updated my comment to say that the G5 has Quickcharge 3.

There is nothing that is clearly a successor for someone who wants MotoX software tweaks, MotoX tiny size, Moto maker customization of the phone body, etc. Please, Wirecutter, find that phone for me?

The Wirecutter does suggest that if you want an Android, get an Android, if you want an iPhone, get an iPhone. We especially note the excellent cameras and the replaceable batteries.

But if those are important to you, then yes, get the G5. I agree with the below comments about affordability and overspending. I am in the market for a phone as mine died a few days ago.

Does anyone here have advice on whether I should buy an older unlocked note 4 versus buying a new 6p. My only issue with the note 4 is the age and whether updates will still come through.

Considering the cost and expandability, I really enjoy my Galaxy S5 and would as of now May would get another and bypass the S6 and S7. There is jsut now reason to buy a phone that does not have a replaceable battery AND expanded memory slot.

Oh and I have had no problems or issues with my Galaxy S5 since I bought it in In keeping with the era. Mobile phones have changed. The new models of mobile phones coming on the market every day.

Batteries have a lifespan, and only have so many charge cycles. Rather replace the battery than the phone. Who carries a second battery? LG has the slideout, but I still think attaching a spare battery via USB is more convenient and much more durable.

Charging via USB is what I do at home, work, and in my vehicle. I used to carry second and third! They take up a lot less space than a USB charger and take your phone from zero to full-charge instantly without adding any cables or bulk to the device, or subjecting the charging port to the stress of a micro USB connector bent into a pocket in my pants or bag.

USB chargers are great, too—I use them a lot—but are only slightly more convenient than charging from the wall. I would second or third, or fourth the suggestion that a removable battery is critical.

They are the only part of the phone that wears out typically within a year. If it does, you have the option to continue using the same phone indefinitely, or selling it or giving it away. I bet it is hard to sell a phone with a non-removable, dead battery, no matter how good the build quality, the camera, the customized apps, etc.

I have found the charging socket to be extremely vulnerable to problems on a range of smartphones and tablets. This can limit charging capability if you have to have your plug sitting at a particular angle for the contacts to work.

I guess you mean wireless charging? There are doodads you can add to any phone to give it wireless charging. It has removable storage, though not a removable battery.

Any word on when the OnePlus 3 addition will be incorporated? Any idea about how that will rate? Have you checked out any phones by BLU Products http: I just learned of their existence today. Yes, when come to budget android phones Moto g is good.

I expect this whole page will have to be revamped in the next month or two as there are a bunch of new offerings OnePlus 3, Moto Z, etc and the new Nexus phones are coming.

I would not buy a Moto G again unless I was gonna carry it around in one of those pouch-like cases. Hey, my wife has the OG Moto X which had the twist gesture enabled for camera.

Subjective; I like both phones. I own the Nexus 6P, my buddy and my sis also has a G4. I never hesitate to recommend it. I am considering purchasing an iPhone for the first time ever always have been and Android family because of the size of the SE.

For those of us are sick of the ever growing phones, is there an Android alternative that is as good or close to the Samsung Galaxy series, but closer in size to the iPhone SE? The go-to for good compact android phones has always been the Sony Z-Series compact.

The new Google phone. The only drawback is buying new cables and chargers for USB-C. Did you have your final thoughts on the Lumix mm? Is it worthy for replacing your current kit lens upgrade? Imagine being the engineer that had to take THAT solution to his boss?

You only have to worry about your phone exploding if you have a Galaxy Note 7. The Galaxy S7 is not affected and we stand by it as our pick. Is the Oneplus 3 discontinued?

I am hearing rumors, and the website stops me from ordering it…. I checked in with our reviewer and as far as we know, it is not discontinued. We would be very very surprised if it was as it has not been out for very long.

Thanks for the response. We may still go with this, but I was not able to order the device last week when I tried. Could have been a temporary bug on the page of course….

I used to buy the premium phones but this does all I need. What about the LG v20? Will you add that to this review soon? Without the Note7, how does it compare to the Pixel XL?

They do the most rigorous testing of any tech critics. I think you should compare the price taking account of the memory storage options. If you want or need more than 32gb, with the pixel, you have to switch to the gb version, whereas with the S7 you can pop in a cheaper microsd card of any size.

I was introduced to almondgeniushacker gmail. It is very affordable. One advantage you mention is that the Pixel phones have Android 7.

The Best Android Phones. than most flagship phones. The 6-inch p display isn’t as for best android phone if I refuse to go above
