More than 2 hours of talk, 7 days of standby Weight: None claimed Works with: The Martian Passport wants to give you the best of both watch worlds, by offering a mechanical, analog watch face and a small LCD.

It comes in three varieties, all with silver bezels: The Passport is versatile in that it works with Android and iOS mobile devices. And it features the ability to make phone calls with its built-in microphone and speaker.

You can use voice commands the Passport leverages your phone's voice recognition system; such as Apple's Siri for iOS devices or Google Now for Android to control the mobile device from the watch.

And because of the analog watch face, you can easily see the time in bright sunlight. Features that aren't so versatile: You use buttons to navigate, so it's not as intuitive to use as the watches with touch-screen displays.

And in bright sunlight, we judged the OLED display to have the worst readability in this tested batch. Devices running Android 2. The Pebble Steel is a stylish new version of the Pebble Watch, which we reviewed previously.

But as its name states, the Steel is made of stainless steel and comes in either a steel or black finish. It ships from GetPebble. The device passed our water-resistance tests.

This may be enough functionality for many people—it's a personal choice. Up to 6 days, typically 2 to 3 days Weight: Most Samsung devices running Android 4. The Gear 2 Neo is basically a less expensive version of the Gear 2: It has similar functionality, but it's housed in a plastic body instead of metal and has no built-in camera.

And the slimmer Gear Fit is a hybrid smartwatch and activity tracker. Like the other Gears, the Gear 2 works only with some Samsung devices. The company has been increasing the number of compatible devices, but check before you buy.

Apps come from the Samsung app market. The Gear 2 has a metal body and comes a variety of color combos, including all black, a rose-gold-color body with a brown strap, or an orange body and strap, You can change out the strap with any aftermarket strap.

Like the other two new Gear watches, the Gear 2 has an intuitive and vivid color touch-screen interface. It also has an abundance of features: You can make phone calls with its built-in microphone and speaker, and use voice commands to the watch to control your paired mobile device.

The Gear 2 also includes a gyroscope, an accelerometer, and a heart-rate sensor. It also can control a TV or set-top box remotely using a built-in IR blaster, and it has the ability to function as a stand-alone music player.

And its built-in camera—handily built into the watch itself rather than on the band, like the original Galaxy Gear—takes 2-megapixel stills and p video. Of the three second-generation Samsung smartwatches, the Gear Fit is the most creative and stylish departure from the original Samsung Galaxy Gear.

It's just as much an activity monitor as it is a smartwatch, and it has a markedly new look—slim, sleek, and light. You can opt to view your display vertically, but you'll be reading a lot of truncated words that way.

Like the other Gears, the Gear Fit works only with some Samsung devices. Also like the other two new Gear watches, the Gear 2 has an intuitive and vivid color touch-screen interface.

It also includes a gyroscope, an accelerometer and a heart sensor, for tracking your physical activities. Although it's more basic than the offerings from Samsung, Sony, and Qualcomm, it's pretty useful, channeling e-mails, texts, and other notifications from your smart phone or tablet.

The Pebble also runs a wide variety of apps from third-party developers, including fitness apps for bikers, runners, and golfers. In fact, Pebble very recently announced its own App Store, which is reachable through the Pebble phone app.

The company says that more than 1, apps are available currently. The Pebble comes in five colors. Its so-called "e-paper" monochrome display has excellent readability in bright light.

And there's a very active user community at the company's online forums. We had fun turning on its backlight with a flick of the wrist, and the magnetic charger is easy to use.

And it has a button-based non-touch screen, small monochrome interface. Bottom line Of the basic watches, we like the Pebble best, for its display, platform, and engaged online community.

The SmartWatch 2 has a thin bezel; it's almost all screen, which gives it a modern, sleek look. We tested the model with the plastic strap, which is light and flexible and can fit close to your wrist.

The Sony SmartWatch 2 uses Android apps only. Sony has an open app platform, so third-party developers contribute apps too. There is a very wide selection of available apps, and many are free.

It works with any phone with Android 4. The OLED color display had very good readability in bright sunlight, and the touch-screen interface is intuitive. It's one of the lighter watches, at 1. What we didn't like Setup is more time-consuming with this smartwatch than with others, as you need to download extension apps to your mobile device for every function you want, including messaging and phone call notifications.

It's compatible only with Android 4. Bottom line This is a good-looking and versatile smartwatch. We love the easy NFC pairing. But it's a pain to have to download additional extension apps for basic features or functions, which you don't have to do on most other.

The Frame is a little sleeker looking and slightly heavier than the Strata below. The Frame comes in black or white; there isn't much difference otherwise. Basic features are preloaded, and you use apps that are on your phone already for notifications, as you do with the Toq.

Some third-party apps are also available. The Frame has no touch screen, so all your menu navigation is done by button presses. It's not particularly intuitive. What we didn't like To charge the watch, you have to clip on the charger and align it with contacts that you can't see when you're clipping.

Why make it so complicated? There's no NFC for easy pairing, and you have to find the smartwatch app in the app market, download it, and install it on your mobile device. The Frame's display readability in bright sunlight was judged to be only good.

It's relatively heavy, at 2. Bottom line This is a truly basic smartwatch with a small, monochrome screen. There's not much to recommend it. It comes with a choice of five strap colors.

Deciding between the Strata and the Frame is more a style decision than anything, as pretty much everything else is the same. Basic features are preloaded, and you use apps that are on your phone already for notifications, as with the Toq.

The Strata has no touch screen, so all your menu navigation is done by button presses. What we didn't like As with the Frame, you have to clip on the charger and align it with contacts that you can't see when you're clipping.

In this regard, a black background is the best option for better visibility and least offensiveness. Even though it is not possible to install other 3rd party applications on the Uwatch, as is possible with the Moto or Apple Watch, most of the essential and defining smartwatch apps are already pre-loaded on this device.

Some of the apps work independently without the need of connecting a smartphone. However, other applications, such as notifications and phone calls, require a connected smartphone via Bluetooth to function.

All Android phones with Android OS 2. On the other hand, the level of compatibility with Android phones does not compare with what the Uwatch has to offer for the iPhone.

Even though many of the applications function just fine when your iPhone is connected, the UWatch does not support notifications when used with iOs devices. Considering how notifications are an essential part of the smartwatch experience, iPhone users will have to take this into consideration when deciding whether or not to buy the U8.

Apparently there is someone who would like to listen to their favourite tunes from small speakers on their wrist because this feature has been included in the U8 smartwatch. Frankly, in my humble opinion, a smartwatch should just be used as a kind of remote control when playing music on a smartphone.

The remote control camera feature is only limited to Android phones. You just open the camera app on the Uwatch and then your smartphone camera captures a picture.

It is a handy feature, but iPhone users should not feel like they are missing out so much with this particular highlight. The alarm feature on the Uwatch smartwatch is exactly the way it should be — simple and clear as well as independent of your phone.

You can easily set up multiple alarms up to 5 on the smartwatch that will be enabled by playing one of the many included tones or vibrate on your wrist. The U8 excels in this particular aspect as the vibration is quite strong and since the alarms are not dependent on your phone, you can still use them when your smartphone is not near you or out of battery.

Then, how exactly does its Anti-lost feature work? If you are a fitness enthusiast, you will enjoy the simplistic offerings of this smartwatch. The pedometer and stopwatch are all that are offered in exercise applications.

There is no heart rate monitor or calorie counter here. The U watch smartwatch will unquestionably not replace your Fitbit, but it should motivate you to start tracking your steps.

Even though many people claim that the Uwatch smartwatch can only synchronise contacts with Android devices, you can still bring in contacts from your iPhone into the watch using the same standard procedure.

Once synced, the phonebook allows you to call a person from your smartwatch directly. Thus, if the ability to make a call and also receive it on your U8 smartwatch is something you are interested in, then you should get this device.

The iPhone community has been left out in as far as notifications on the UWatch smartwatch go. The notifications are only available for the Android OS, and only after installing the BT Notifier application that is.

Nevertheless, the alerts work reliably for both texts and calls. There are the barometer and thermometer sensors that are included in the Uwatch U8 Pro smartwatch, but not in the basic version of the U8 watch for those who are passionate about keeping tabs on the weather conditions.

You should, however, note that the watch only displays the barometric pressure and temperature of your present location only. Also, since this function does not extend to the phone as the sensors are located in the smartwatch, you can only get the readings of whatever room you are currently in.

That means that if you want to know how hot or cold it is outside, you will have to go outside first to get the accurate readings. Also, if you have ever wondered how high your current location is, there is also an altimeter included in this smartwatch.

Many potential buyers had been scared away from the Uwatch due to the numerous non-English pictures around the web. The truth is that the U8 is made by a Chinese manufacturer, but it supports a wide variety of languages, ranging from English and French to Spanish and many others.

Unsurprisingly, the U watch smartwatch had a good battery life. Even though it is still recommended to bring Micro-USB charger with you whenever you are travelling, the U8 lasted for more than three days in standby mode and roughly 36 hours of regular usage.

The battery could honestly be considered as one of the best parts of the Uwatch, especially when compared to its more expensive counterparts. As I finalise this U8 smartwatch review, one thing stands out about this smartwatch — it makes for an excellent first and cheap smartwatch.

If you want to find out what all the fuss about smartwatches is about without breaking the bank, you should get this device. However, for your minimal investment, the durability of the device is not guaranteed, especially the screen, which requires lots of care when handling it.

Also, you do not get 3rd party applications and the notification functionality for iPhone users. In conclusion, I am quite fond of the Uwatch, even if this U8 smartwatch review does not give the same impression.

It is a good smartwatch and provides remarkable value compared to the low buying price. Furthermore, most knock-off smartwatches that are able available on the market today are virtually identical with regards to functionality and style but are often more costly than the Uwatch.

If you want an affordable smartwatch or an exciting gift for a kid who loves tech stuff, this is an excellent choice. The U8 will also serve you well if you just want a smartwatch for a small price that also happens to come with a couple of cute alarms.

Most of the competitors in the knock-off sector are more interested in prices and design rather than functions. Hence, if you have been drawn to the simplistic design of this device, as many people do, do not waste your finances or time with a much more expensive device.

See recommended smartwatches on Amazon. Am wondering if the watch turns itself on when we raise it, or not. How can a person wear it to work as a watch is an important part of my dialogging time with consignment notes when its going to run out of battery?

Contacts loaded very easily, let down by searching, feature, which is acheived by scrolling through the alphabet, time consumming and tedious, imho its least attractive feature.

Nice feature is you get a good loud ring tone, which the iPhone lacks when in your pocket, making it ideal if phone is not on you. You can select different ringtones and if you want vibration, just remember vibration uses more battery.

You can answer from the touch sensitive display watch which helps to avoid missed calls, because you can now have your phone in your breifcase or bag, and answer quicker. I have only charged the battery once so far, which was bone flat out of the box, so i left it charging for 24 hours.

Mention here a very short charging lead is provded, if you need to charge the watch while wearing it, you need to get a longer lead. If battery life is an issue you can always attach a cheap rechargeable power brick like you can for your phone.

People remark in other site reviews the short battery life, bemoaning 6 hours. I use 15 seconds so just use some common sense really.
